ELMPARK RB

These residential buildings are designed to give each individual apartment a clear relationship to the outside as well as a flexible skin to manage that relationship. Inside and outside spaces are separated with a variable façade, maximizing terraced spaces and balconies. These variable configurations enable residents to modify the internal environment with their lifestyle and also to manage the variable climate in Dublin.

The buildings are oriented along north-south axis in order that all apartments have east and west facing façades to make the most of the sunlight. Apartments are served by vertical cores to eliminate internal corridors and each apartment has an outside terrace that can function as part of the internal space in most weather conditions. Apartments are laid out so that bedrooms look to the east and living spaces look to the west.

Environment
Terraces are based on creating living space for the Irish climate. In winter and summer the terraces function as a sky conservatory, sheltered from wind and rain and permitting use of the space all year round. Breathing façades are in tune with the environment, with the seasons and with life. Glass vents, sliding opening window sections and vertical ventilators all allow maximum flexibility and variability in the façade.

Prefabrication
Most of the construction elements were prefabricated for speed of construction and quality of finished elements. Pop-out living terraces with views to the south and north are actually room extensions. Bathrooms and kitchens are constructed as prefabricated pods, cladding is on timber frames with aluminium face caps to the outside.
